On my way back from the Going to the Sun Road, I passed by the village of East Glacier. This is the long way back since Logan Pass is closed off for repair work. I stopped here for a quick dinner before continuing on my long drive back to West Glacier. By this time, I’m sure that it would be dark by the time I get to West Glacier so there was no more pressure for me to get back earlier. I decided to have a look at what East Glacier has. This is a very small village which essentially contains a single street. There are a few interesting establishments here though.
Being one of the villages which are close to the park it has a few lodges and motels here. This makes East Glacier a convenient base to start your visit of Glacier National Park. There are a few restaurants here to cater to the visitors but most of them were already closed by the time I got there. These establishments would usually close for the season once summer is over. After all, it may not be worth it to continue operating if there aren’t enough customers. There were other interesting things to see here for example the World’s Large Wooden Purple Spoon. It’s funny how these have to be fully qualified to claim fame. There was also a cafe here which was still open. Apart from these stores, East Glacier seems to be a sleepy village whose man purpose is to welcome visitors into Glacier National Park. Oh, it also helps that they have an Amtrak station here in the village.
