Glacier National Park has several historic lodges or hotels. This harks back to an era when the west was still being opened up and railroads were being built. At that time, railroad companies would build routes to beautiful places and at the same time they would also build hotels for the tourists to stay in. It was certainly a great idea at the time as the number of hotels and lodges in the area grew. Saint Mary Lodge is one of these lodges that were built to cater to tourists. I’m actually surprised to see how large the lodge is.
Like a lot of the buildings built back then, Saint Mary Lodge and Resort has large parts of it built using wood. But it is so large that you would think that it looks more like a wooden apartment building. Residents of Saint Mary Lodge and Resort would be treated to a great view of Glacier National Park. I don’t think this would be best place for visitors to stay in the area. At least from the eastern entrance, this would be an excellent base when visiting the park. The hotel also features a well known restaurant but it was still too early for me to eat here. Maybe on the way out, I can consider eating here. Saint Mary Lodge and Resort is easy to find since most people would be passing by the major junction into the eastern entrance.
