As I was trying to make my way to Logan Pass, I needed to pass by the village of Saint Mary before actually entering Glacier National Park itself. I remember the historic hotel here and I was wondering how to get a photo of this place. There was a hill behind the hotel and I thought that might be a good spot to take a photo of the hotel. There was actually a small estate here called Cottage at Glacier, I gathered up my nerve and drove in the estate. Apparently these a cabins which can be rented out. They do have a nice view of Saint Mary.
As I was going around the estate, a nice man came as asked what I was doing and I told him that I was only taking photos. He apparently takes care of the cottages and he suggested where I should go. I took my photos but I wasn’t really satisfied. It seems that the cottages were a bit too far from the hotel and I couldn’t get the right angle. I suspect that the spot would be a little lower but I couldn’t find it. Anyway, I went away thinking how nice that guy was in letting my take photos in what is essentially private property. I guess people are really different here in the country. As for the cottages, they seem to be a great place to stay in when you are in this side of Glacier National Park. It is not too far from the East Glacier Train Station but still close enough to the park itself. In fact, you could probably see the ticket booth from the cottages. If you don’t like to stay at the Saint Mary Lodge and Resort, these cottages will probably be a good choice.
