I was relieved that I made it all the way to Many Glacier for some photographs. Unfortunately, it looks like the best time to come here is in the morning. By the time I got to Many Glacier the sun way directly in front of me and I couldn’t get a proper photo of Swiftcurrent Lake with Mount Wilbur in the center. I was contemplating on looking for a place to stay here but decided against it. I decided to make the more than two hour drive back to West Glacier. It really isn’t nice that the Going to the Sun Road is closed, that would have shaved a lot of time off my trip back. Anyway, I needed to get back there before dark.
I actually managed to make it before dark and found a place to have dinner before heading back to the cabin. There weren’t many to choose from this time of the year since it was already low tourist season. Most of these restaurants choose to not open at all. Only the hardy few would remain open for longer than the peak season. I found a place which seems to be a pleasant place to have dinner. I was prepared for some normal American fare but I noticed and item in the menu which stood out for me – bison meatloaf.
I never had bison before. It is probably something similar to beef but I wanted to try it. I was having second thoughts on whether I was eating the bison to extinction but I thought that they wouldn’t be putting it in the menu if it was endangered. The bison meatloaf wasn’t really anything strange. It is more like a cake of minced meat with mash potatoes and some vegetables. The bison meat wasn’t anything extraordinary, in fact, I thought that quite tasty and it didn’t taste gamey. It was interesting to be able to try something you don’t see often. Who would have thought that Glacier National Park would have something like that.
