Many Glacier is actually one of the famous spots here in Glacier National Park. As the name implies, there are a few glaciers within the vicinity of the village. So different is the climate here that it shuts down sooner than West Glacier. I suppose that is because of the effect of the mountains and that it would be significantly cooler and have more snow during the winter months. It would be nice to see Many Glacier in the winter but I expect that traveling here would be very difficult during winter. So while the sun is shining, I think it would be best to enjoy this place.
As usual, the main activity here in Many Glacier would be hiking. There are a number of significant hikes here in the area. I would argue that these are probably one of the more important ones within the entire park. Grinnell Glacier is one of the most well known glaciers in the park. Specifically because it has been photographed repeatedly across the years. This gives scientists and idea of the state of the glacier. From photographs, one can immediately how much the glacier has retreated. It has been said even back then that the glacier would disappear soon. Is this proof of climate change? I would think so. If visitors want to see Grinnell Glacier, Many Glacier is the best place to start your hike. It would be a strenuous hike to the glacier. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to start a full day hike now. Perhaps some other time when I don’t have to drive so far just to get there.
