Logan Pass is the highest point in the Going to the Sun Road. At an elevation of just over two thousand meters, it also marks the mid point of the Going to the Sun Road. Expect a lot of people here at Logan Pass so be sure to come here early. I didn’t have much choice since I had to make the long trip from West Glacier to the Logan Pass using the east entrance because a section of the Going to the Sun Road was closed. This includes the part which goes to Logan Pass. Because of this, I needed to go a long way around the park just to go to Logan Pass. I have to remember not to linger too long as well since I would have to drive all the way back to West Glacier after all over this. It makes me think that I should have booked a place at East Glacier instead.
Logan Pass is named after the first superintendent of Glacier National Park William Logan. It think they picked a very good location for the visitor center here since it is a nice flat area. Although it is the highest point of the road system, when you think about it two thousand meters isn’t really that high after all. However because of the unique location of Glacier National Park, this place gets packed with snow during the winter and it is impossible to visit during these times. It is so bad that an area called the Big Drift is named precisely because there is so much snow that accumulates there, all eighty feet of it. I don’t want to be digging through all of that snow.
