The Going to the Sun Road is an eighty kilometer strip of road which winds its way around the mountains in Glacier National Park. The road is the first to be designed for use by tourists on cars. It was convenient then, it is even more convenient now. I understand it could get a bit crowded here during the summer, but came here at the tail end of summer and there were significantly less people here. I was glad I came when I did. I rented a car at the airport because I was aware that one would be needed to go around the park. I know that there is a park bus which shuttles people from one spot to another it won’t bring you to your hotel. Unless you have enough money to stay in the park itself.
It is best to rent your own car and go on foot whenever you feel like it. There are numerous spots here where major stops are also trailheads leading to some other place. There would be details of the hike such as the length and the elevation gained or loss. This would give you an indication of how difficult the trail can be. I ended up going on a few trails here but most of the ones I did were the short ones. I would love to go on the longer ones but I don’t know if I could handle it either. To be safe, I just went with the shorter ones but I did more of them to make up for it.
