I think Cathedral Rocks would be the last place I would see in Achill Island. I managed to get back early from the Belmullet Peninsula and visited some places which I didn’t get to visit the previous day. Cathedral Rocks would be my last stop before I head off to dinner. The name itself is already quite mysterious. There is no cathedral here and only rocks. Cathedral Rocks is located at the eastern end of the Keel Beach which one of Achill’s main beaches. There is a foot of a mountain which ends the beach. The rocks here are a bit dome shape which might explain the name of the place.
Looking at the map, I think I was up on this very mountain just a few minutes ago. The Minaun Heights has a good view of Keel Beach and I think this place is actually right below the viewing area. I couldn’t see anything when I was at Minaun Heights because of the thick cloud cover. Now, I made it to the foot of the mountain and I was still impressed with what I have seen. There beach here is rocky. But the rocks here are uniform in size, I almost wonder if this was artificial. The winds are quite powerful here but they make for a wild and remote feeling that you won’t get anywhere else.
