My visit to Minaun Heights was both a disappointing one and an exciting one. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to see the view but I can’t help but hope that the clouds would dissipate. It didn’t go away but I still got my adventure of driving up a cloud covered mountain. I head back down the mountain and started making my way to the village of Keel where most of the eating places are. Along the way, there was another detour I made before reaching the village. There was another spot on the map which was marked as Cathedral Rocks. I wasn’t sure what that meant but I followed it anyway.
The road goes all the way to what is the eastern end of the Keel Beach. Keel Beach is quite long and it is the center of activity here in Achill. But the road I took seemed to be remote. There were a few houses along the way but when I got to the beach, there wasn’t anyone there. It probably didn’t help that the winds here were really powerful. I noticed that the beach here isn’t sandy. In fact, it is composed mostly of small rocks. I would imagine that the rocks make swimming in this part of the Keem Beach unattractive.
