I was preparing to make my way to town in Achill Island when I saw a road which seems to lead up the mountains. I thought it would be nice to see some moutaintop views so I decided to follow the road. The mountain here seems to be quite tall and it seem to be very remote. I didn’t see any other vehicles coming the other way which made me think that this was the wrong way. If you go all the way to the top of what is called Minaun Heights, you should get a great view of Keel Beach and the rest of Achill. I would have wanted to see that view.
Alas, the further I went, the closer the clouds seemed to be. There was thick cloud cover that swept over the top of the mountain, and I was caught unprepared for this. However, I was already that high up and I really wanted to know what is on top. I decided to push forward even if I could hardly see the road in front of me. So thick was the cloud cover that it would be very possible for one to drive off the road and the mountain because of this. I managed to get to very top of Minaun Heights by driving very slowly. Unfortunately, there was no break in the clouds and I could still not see anything here. It was almost like those scary films where you would be afraid that something might come out of the fog. From what I can tell, there were no killer zombies but there was a cell tower here and a fence. You can hear the sheep but you could hardly see them. As for the view, you can forget about it. It was a fun experience to do that but I must say that one needs to be very careful driving in these conditions. I was lucky that there were no other vehicles here so it was easy to just stay in the middle of the road.
