Steep Cliffs at Dun na mBo

I was quite surprised to know that the centuries old fortress here at Dun na mBo isn’t what it appeared. It is actually a sculpture more meant to keep people from falling in the blowhole. It was built to appear like it was an ancient fort but looks certainly deceived. While the primary sight here are Dun na mBo is the blowhole. There is actually nice coastal scenery to be had here. The same process which created the blowhole also created the cliffs which is beyond the blowhole. There was a fence which prevent visitors from reaching the cliffs, I think it is because it is private property.

The cliffs here at Dun na mBo are very rugged. You can see the hills just cleanly cut and everything just falls into the sea. I would expect that the very same spot where I was standing on would also eventually fall into the sea. I don’t like the sculpture here so I think it would be okay for the sea to take it down as well. This part of the county Mayo is very rugged, so I expect more of these as I continue to explore the Belmullet Peninsula.
