I booked a hotel at The Strand Hotel in the quiet northeastern part of Achill Island. I had no idea how remote this area was until I got this. I was under the impression that there would be a small town here but in reality it is more like a village or a just a collection of houses. The largest structure here would be the The Strand Hotel itself. The Strand Hotel occupies a strategic location in the village. It is on the western end of Dugort Beach and a lot of rooms in the hotel, including mine, would have great views of the beach.
Dugort Beach isn’t one of the popular beach here in Achill, that honor probably goes to Keel Beach but this white sand beach would surely give Keel a run for its money. There beach here is pristine. It would actually be nice to swim in the beach if it weren’t always so cold here, but that is probably why the beaches here are so nice too. I would see people walking up and down the beach, I think people do come to Dugort Beach but not all of them would stay here since it is quite remote. If you want to have a beach all to yourself, Dugort Beach might be the one for you.
