The Beitou Hot Spring Museum 北投温泉博物馆 is a structure built in Beitou Park. It sits on top of the stream which flows out of the thermal valley. Since this area was known as a hot spring area, there are several structures which have been built to take advantage of this resource. Beitou Hot Spring Museum used to be a public bathhouse. This meant that ordinary folk can experience hot spring bathing as well. Inside, the bathhouse has a very Japanese feel to it. Not really surprising, since this was built by the Japanese. The tatami room was a very good example of the Japanese features of the bathhouse.
Naturally, there are also pools in here. What would a bathhouse be without pools? The majority of the pools are at the lower floor and this is probably where it gets interesting. There is no water in the pools but they have cartoons which show that this used to be a pool for bathing. There are several of pools here. There are also instructions on how to properly bathe in a public bathhouse. There is actually a public bathing area not too far away from here. It is not a bathhouse but more of an open air type of hot spring bath. I didn’t have my stuff with me or I would have wanted to try it out.
