Despite the crummy weather, I was okay with my visit to Jiufen. I managed to find the place by taking a bus and I was able to appreciate the famed old street of Jiufen. Granted it is not like the old streets that mainland China has, these ones in Jiufen are not that bad. They don’t have full blown restaurants here but Jiufen focuses more on snack stalls, of which there are numerous ones. Despite the large number of people who visit Jiufen Old Street, I actually enjoy walking the street and just observing the people and the shops here. At night time, Jiufen Old Street comes alive with lights and of course Chinese lanterns.
The lanterns here are very prominent and give the place a lot of character. I actually didn’t notice them when I first got here but the lights are much more prominent at night. There is a noticeable decrease in the number of people here. I believe it is because Jiufen Old Street is not a night market which can stay open all the way past midnight. Still, the decrease in the number of people walking around is welcome since I can appreciate the old street a little better. I hope that some of the snack shops are still open.
