Despite the rainy day, I decided to leave the village of Shifen and head out to the Shifen Waterfall. Looking at the map, it didn’t seem to be that far so I took a chance and just walked. Even if there was a taxi service to bring you there. You only get dropped off at the starting point and you have to start walking. While I think this is nice since you won’t have vehicles ruining the place, it might still be not easy for elderly folk to visit this place since it would require a certain level of fitness. I am fortunate that I can still do things like that so I was off to the trail.
What you can see in the area is that there is already an abundance of water here. The Keelung River winds its way through the area and it forms several ponds here which are collectively called the Four Wide Ponds 四广谭. There is a suspension bridge to help you cross the river and you can appreciate the river from there. This place seems to be a popular place for visitors and I could already see several of them making the trek to the waterfall. I think this might turn out to be something special.
