Crossing the Jingandiao Bridge 静安吊桥

I was surprised to see a suspension bridge behind the village of Shifen 十分. The area where Shifen is is quite mountainous and it is probably not that easy to get there by car. There are highways here but given the terrain here, getting to the village was probably not the easiest thing to do. This is probably one of the reasons why the village stayed the way it is for a while. The easiest way for most people to get here is by the train which I assume wasn’t that very frequent back then. With the relative isolation of the village, they needed to make do with what they have.

The village was built on the shores of the Keelung River. This proved to be a challenge in expanding the village since the terrain wasn’t very easy. The Jingandiao suspension bridge was built to make getting to the other side of town easier, instead of having to go down to the river and back up. As a result, you can actually have a nice view of the village of Shifen from here. As an added bonus, you can see the Keelung River flowing way below. Despite the looks of the suspension bridge, it is pretty stable and there wasn’t much swaying. I’m looking forward to see the other side of the village.
