As the train was pulling in Shifen Train Station 十分车站, I noticed that there were a lot of visitors already here. I think the village of Shifen it really that small that having a lot of visitors here would make it really crowded. The main point of interest of the village are the train tracks. Most of the visitors would be here taking their selfies with it. As a result, there is a need for staff to regularly clear the tracks of any people when a train approaches. I doubt anyone would actually want to be around when the train does come. The train itself slows to a crawl when it approaches the platform since the tracks are narrow enough that people on the either side of the platform and reach out to the train and easily lose an arm if they are not careful.
Seeing as to how the train station is basically the center of the village, it is therefore not a surprise to see so many shops sprout around the train station. As you might expect, there are numerous snack shops here keeping in line with the overall theme of a typical Taiwan destination. It looks like I won’t be running out of options for food when lunch time comes. Shifen also seems to be known as a destination for couples with some couples stuff on sale where you can wish for a happy relationship and all that stuff.
