It was rainy season when I visited Taiwan so the weather wasn’t that nice. I was hoping for it not to rain at the very least but I won’t be getting that today. I still have several days here in Taipei, hopefully I would get better weather in the coming days. I have been outside most of the time and I was hoping I would be able to go indoors for a change. One of the more prominent landmarks here in Taipei is the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall 國立國父紀念館. Sun Yat-sen is one of the most important figures in the history of Taiwan. A lot would consider him to be the Father of the Nation.
It all started when Sun Yat-sen was still in China. At the time, China was still in the Qing dynasty. The Qing were actually considered foreigners having originated in Manchuria which was not considered Han Chinese. These days, China has a lot of minorities but the largest ethnic group is the Han. Somehow the Qing were able to take over much of the country and they did so for more then two hundred years. Sun Yat-sen led a revolution against the Qing which, as history has shown, succeeded. The success of the revolution restored Han rule over China and started China’s march to the modern age.
