The Pena Palace would turn out to be the last place which we will visit in this guided tour. And just in time. The sun was already going down and the lights were getting a bit weird but it was probably perfect for capturing the beauty of Pena Palace. The Pena Palace served as the summer residences of the Portuguese royalty before eventually being turned into a museum. What can be immediately seen are the rather bizarre colors used in the palace itself. It was almost like it was designed in different stages by different people. There were various architectural elements which were incorporated into the palace by request of the king.
Construction didn’t take long having been completed in twelve years when it was almost done in half that time. The kings would request that certain designs be incorporated. The Portuguese royalty seem to be avid fans of architecture and design that they would often order the building of a structure such as a monastery with very elaborate designs. Some of these places I have already visited earlier in this trip. What is also nice to know is that Pena Palace sits on top of a hill and there are great views to be hard from this place. There are paths around the palace which allow you to safely view the scenery on top of a cliff. From here you can also see the ruins of a Castle of the Moors but it is a bit too far away to see clearly. Unfortunately, this was as far as I would get to see it since we don’t have enough time for it.
