Regaleira Palace in Sintra
The first structure within the Quinta da Regaleira which I saw was the Regaleira Palace. The palace can be clearly seen from the road as we parked our van. I thought it seemed to be an interesting place but this wasn’t the first place to visit when touring the estate. We went around the gardens before ending up at the palace itself. By that time, I was already tired from going around the estate. It wasn’t that small after all. The palace is arguably the centerpiece of the entire estate and it shows. Rather than a palace for a king, it was actually for a wealthy merchant.

The palace should probably be considered a mansion rather than a palace. Anyway, the design wasn’t particularly striking to me. It has a mixture of styles from gothic to Manueline. By the time we got to the palace, there were already a lot of people in it. I kind of lost interest to see what was inside because of this. I merely took photos from the outside and just continued on to the rest of the tour which was actually the end. The path leads directly to the exit, where our tour guide Antonio was patiently waiting for us.
