Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon is probably one of the best examples of Manueline architecture in the country. I think it is hard to compare which architectural style is better looking but I think I have seen examples of baroque, romanesque, gothic and now Manueline which seems to be a style on its own. I am very impressed with the level of skill needed to produce something like this, more so when it is the scale of a Jerónimos Monastery. Most of what I have seen so far has been the cloister of the monastery which showcases Manueline architecture. One could get lost in this incredible showcase is the main church of the monastery.
The church is probably the main structure that is seen from the outside. Already, I can tell that this a very large structure. I just can’t tell how large it actually is. I would end up visiting the loft where the choir is. It was good to see this since you can see most of the church from here. The place just opens up just like the sky. The roof is high above much like Gothic churches roofs tend to be. The vaulted roof has patterns which remind you of stars with rays emanating from them. It is incredibly detailed work for something so high up. It is amazing how they managed to build this.
