I was ready to call it a day in Évora. I think I have explored most of the important sights in the city and it was an incredible experience. The feel of Évora is different since it feels more like an old town with all of the narrow streets. If it weren’t so hot I would have completely enjoyed the visit. Anyway, it was time for dinner. After doing some research, I wanted to have dinner at at least one of a few well known restaurants in the city. I thought that since it was still early evening, I might have a chance to snag a seat. It took a while for me to find the place because the streets of Évora are a maze. By the time I got there, the shop was already opening and there was a queue of peoplle in front of me. Unfortunately, the shop only takes a handful of customers per evening, perhaps only eight, and there wasn’t enough for me. It must have been really good if they can afford to take in only eight customers. Disappointed, I looked for a different place.
I had another round of bad luck with another restaurant, so I just went to the next one I could find. I found Restaurante São Domingos in another narrow street and there was no queue. I usually take this as a bad sign but I can’t afford to be picky now. The staff was friendly and they speak good English. I was recommended to try a fish dish which is said to be traditional here in Portugal. It is made of dogfish, which is a type of shark. The fish is cooked in tasty broth and it is eaten with bread soaked in soup. I can’t say this is my favorite way of eating fish but it is nice to know how they eat it here in Portugal.
