After a whole day of exploring the history city of Évora, I thought I have pretty much covered most of the important places. I was still very warm. There are no shopping malls here where I can cool off in, so decided to head back to the hotel which is outside the city walls. It then occurred to me that there seemed to be an interesting structure right beside the hotel. I remember seeing the structure as I was parking the rental car. From the outside it looks much like a castle, albeit a miniature one. I was surprised that no one was visiting this and I thought that this was just an imitation.
It turns out that this is another historical monument – Ermida de São Brás or the Chapel of São Brás. I was surprised to know that this is actually chapel since the exterior seems to suggest that it was a castle. The chapel has several towers with pointy tops, very reminiscent of typical castles you see elsewhere. This was built on the grounds of an old leprosarium. There inside of the chapel wasn’t particularly noteworthy, I wanted to take a photo inside but there were people praying and I would be the only tourist inside. As I said, this seems to be a bit outside the tourist trail but the design of the chapel is still noteworthy.
