Before coming here to Portugal, a friend of mine was raving about the food in Portugal. However, all I remember was the sardines and various seafood since he was a seafood lover. I wasn’t aware of the other types of food here. The black pork lizard dish was delicious entry into my list of dishes to come back for. Much as I wanted to hang around the restaurant because it was so hot outside, I had to vacate my seat since I wasn’t eating anymore. I needed to continue my exploration of the city of Évora. I decided to take the alleyways this time I think I would be able to get some much needed shade here.
I think I got lucky here, as I unexpectedly ran into another eating place. This time it was pastry which Portugal is known for – egg tarts. For the longest time, the term egg tarts always had a “Potuguese” word in front which is to emphasize the roots of this delicious pastry. I must admit that I am not a huge pastry fan but I would eat egg tarts any time. Fábrica dos Pasteis is a bakery which is known for their egg tarts called pasteis. I decided to have a couple for dessert. I was a bit disappointed with the batch that was given me. I thought that it was a bit dry and not as oily as I thought it would be. Maybe I got unlucky because I know that this place is known for their egg tarts.
