I was very happy with my visit to Tomar. I managed to see two sights in Convento de Cristo and the Aqueduct of Pegões. At that point, I needed to call it a day. I still needed to get to my hotel where I would be staying for the night. However, it is still a good two hours away. Fortunately, it was still light outside so driving was a breeze. I ended up taking the tollways which were a godsend, unfortunately, they do cost a bit of money. The rental car comes with a dongle which allows me to pass through the tollway without needing to stop. There is a beep whenever I pass a paid section. Pretty soon, the dongle was beeping every few minutes much like a taxi meter. I was dreading the cost of all this convenience.
It was pretty much highway all the way and it be just sundown when I arrived at the city of Evora where I would be spending the night. I managed to land some good deals in this trip and I got a room at Hotel Dom Fernando in Evora which is actually just ouside the city walls of the old city. There is a nine minute walk to the city center but you won’t notice it since there is a lot to see along the way. The Hotel Dom Fernando is probably the largest in the area and it shows. There are a lot of rooms and it even has a swimming pool. It is actually quite tempting since it was so hot when I visited. I think I wasn’t used to the heat anymore.
