I probably expected a more mystical experience when I visited Fatima but I guess there were too many people and it was almost touristy. I can’t really put my finger on it but it feels almost like a theme park now and some of the solemnity which comes with these kinds of places has been lost. The presences of a lot of other establishments which support the tourist industry don’t help either though they are certainly appreciated when you need them. I think I have seen what I wanted to see, so I decided to move on to the next destination. I will be traveling to the city of Tomar which isn’t that far away from Fatima. I’m grateful that these important places are bunched together so it was easy for me to visit them one after the other.
It helps that I rented a car so it was easy for me to move from place to place. I can’t even imagine how I would go to the next destination without a car. From what I heard, public transport outside the main tourist spots can be dodgy. It turns out that the tourist destination in Tomar was outside the main city itself. It was in a rather mountainous area. There times where I would be doubting as to the correctness of my driving but Google Maps can’t be wrong right? Anyway, I managed to find the place and I would have to explore this place in a hurry because I need to get to my next destination by nightfall.
