One of the predictions of the Our Lady of Fatima was that two of the three children will be taken away to heaven soon after the apparitions. While this was a rather morbid thing to say to children, it really did come to pass. Within two years of the apparitions, siblings Francisco and Jacinta passed away due to illness. There was a European flu pandemic at the time and the siblings were part of the millions who died because of it. Their road to sainthood wasn’t easy either. Usually people would be declared saints because of they were martyred. Child saints were even unheard of since they don’t fully comprehend their actions. Eventually Pope John Paul II beatified the two children. Eventually, Pope Francis canonized them as saints in 2017. Jacinta then became the youngest non-martyred saint in the Catholic church.

The remains of Saints Francisco and Saint Jacinta are both buried inside the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. Their names are prominently displayed here and you would see roses thrown by pilgrims on to the tombs of the saints. It is probably fitting that these two children be buried here where so much of their life revolved in. I think they would have never known how big a role they would play in Catholic world when one day a lady in light appeared before them.
