It was still mid afternoon when I decided to leave Alcobaça in Portugal. I promised that I won’t be doing an amazing race type of trip so I would only be going to the next place to check in. The next destination is not that far away from Alcobaça. It is also known as a place of a large monastery – Batalha. I remember that I purchased a ticket which allows me entry into the major monasteries in the area. There are all UNESCO World Heritage sites and it seems that management already knows people would want to visit all three of them. Theoretically, there is still time to make it before the monastery in Batalha closes but I don’t want to push it.
I drove through very fine expressways that I wish were present where I live. It was a bit unnerving to see that there weren’t a lot of people using the expressways, which made me wonder where they all were. Maybe they know something that I don’t. Fortunately, there weren’t a lot of toll gates here. I was glad that Batalha was only thirty minutes away. That way there was still light by the time I get there. Hotel Villa Batalha seems like it is one of the largest hotels in the area. It was within walking distance of the monastery. It was alomst too large since there didn’t seem to be too many people there at that time. I noticed that the lobby was incredibly warm, perhaps the air conditioning wasn’t working in certain places. However, this was a totally different thing with the rooms. I managed to get one with two beds. Since it was so warm, I turned the air conditioning full blast it was like a godsend. The room itself was spacious and the bathrooms was also very clean. I had a very good night’s stay in Hotel Villa Batalha. They even have breakfast in the morning!
