I have seen a lot of leaflets about the Aran Islands ever since I came to Ireland and I always thought to visit that place sometime. I have finally come here after a few years and I am ready to see what the fuss was all about. Inishmore is the largest of the three Aran Islands and it is the most visited one. I am not sure if tourists go to the Inishmaan and Inisheer but there is probably time for that next time. There were people offering tours of the island and I think it was natural of me to shy away from such things since I prefer to explore places on my own. From the port area, I started my exploration of Inishmore.
What lay before me was a long road of nothingness. For the most part I was walking on a dirt road unless I was passing by a small village of which there aren’t that many here. What I quickly realized what that the staff at the tourist office are very durable hikers. The times which were given me were not as large as thought it would be. I don’t think I am a slow walker but the times quoted by the staff can be a little underestimated. Fortunately, it was still early in the day and I literally had the whole day to walk. I just didn’t realize how much walking I would end up doing.
