Arriving at Inishmore Island

Ferry at Inishmore Port

Ferry at Inishmore Port

The ferry ride from Rossaveel to Inishmore Island was rougher than I expected. The ferry was much bigger than one I took to a different island but I wonder if the seas were just as rough. TheIt would seem that the ferry would just keep pushing on even if the seas were quite rough. I guess the captain is already used to these kinds of choppiness that he might be able to do this in his sleep. Fortunately, I didn’t get motion sickness so I arrived on the island safe and sound. The port of Inishmore was very busy with tourists and people hoping to earn from tourists. What I like about Ireland is that there are no touts here and they would basically just leave you by yourself until you come to them. I guess the people here are quite a bit more easy going compared to the other countries.

Inishmore Island is just one of the Aran Island off the coast of county Galway. Confusingly, the islands all have Inish in their names – Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer. The names are actually Irish and the prefix Inish is actually inis meaning island. Inishmore is actually inis mor or Great Island. There is a tourist office here to help guide you where to go. They were very knowledgable and they would tell you how far certain places are from each other. I wasn’t sure about what to do yet so I just took some photos near the port. I wasn’t willing to rent a bike since my cycling skills are not that great but it would very well be a long walk if I decide to just hike it.
