Saint Patrick Statue Looks to the Sea at Downpatrick Head

I was having a miserable time at Downpatrick Head. The weather wasn’t very nice. I was cold and wet and not that impressed with the place. Downpatrick Head is one of the signature sights of the Wild Atlantic Way. I traveled all the way from county Mayo in this miserable weather to hopefully get some shots. Unfortunately, I ran into typical Irish weather so I just had to make do with it. The path in Downpatrick Head wasn’t muddy get so I took that as a good sign. I need to hurry else the weather makes a turn for the worse. The natural blowhole here is an interesting spot to visit but that isn’t all there is to see here.

There are ruins of an old church here which probably are not that obvious anymore. There is a wall of stone here which surround an lone statue. It doesn’t look like an old church at all. The statue is that of Saint Patrick to whom this place was named after. Saint Patrick looks towards the sea as the wind and rain pummel the statue. Compared to the stones of the walls, the statue of Saint Patrick seems to be much newer. I would think that the statue was placed here much later. I thought the location of the structure was a bit strange, after all who would be living in this miserable land.
