Ireland was ruled by the English for several centuries. In this time, there were numerous castles built all over the country. Though not all of them survive to this day, some still have ruins where visitors can let their imagination run wild with. While I was at Randalstown, I managed to get a tiny glimpse of Shane’s Castle. As it turns out, there is another castle nearby and this one is Antrim Castle. Now, it sounds like the name Antrim Castle is a rather generic name for a castle since Antrim is a name of an entire county. Hopefully, I would get a better idea about this castle.
The first order of business is getting there. It seems that the castle is on the grounds of a Antrim Park which is on the shores of Lough Neagh. The park was much larger than I thought. And for some reason there were a lot of cars. I wasn’t expecting this. There was even traffic police to manage all the incoming cars. I was thinking to myself that a park can’t possibly be this popular. I ended up parking at the carpark nearest the gate. This meant that it was furthest from whatever was interesting in the park. I hope this is worth it.
