When I first passed through Randalstown, it was because there were roadworks along the main road and everyone was forced to take a detour. That detour turned out to be a blessing in disguise since it brought us through Randalstown. I didn’t know much about Randalstown but what struck me was the presence of what I initially thought was an ancient aqueduct. This turned out to be wrong. Upon my revisit, I learned that this structure was a viaduct for the railway line. The structure appears to have two levels, which made it appear like an ancient Roman aqueduct, at least that is my alibi.
I wasn’t sure if the multilevel feature of the bridge was intentional but it made it look like those ancient Roman aqueducts which are usually multilevel as well. The structure has several piers which allow it to cross the small river below. The taller structure is the railway one, while the lower one is for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. There is a nice little walking path along the river which allow better appreciation of the viaduct. Unfortunately for my photos, the sun was directly behind the structure and it made photography difficult. It was easier when we crossed the road and took photos from the other side of the bridge. It was taller than it looked and looked really solid when seen up close.
