Aranmore Island Cemetery

Cemetery at Aranmore Island

The population of Aranmore Island is quite small with people probably numbering less than 600. For such a large island, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people here. This is probably why people stay here. However, that also means that facilities are not that plentiful here. There seems to be only a single church on the island and I was able to visit it in Saint Crone’s Church. It is a nice size church for the people but I don’t see too many of them here. In Ireland, churches and cemeteries usually go hand in hand.

The cemetery is usually not that far away from the church. In the case of Saint Crone’s Church is was just further down the road. The cemetery faces the sea in probably what is a nice setting for final resting place. There are several people buried here over the years and the cemetery seems to be quite large. I did not see any other cemeteries on the island so I would assume that this is the only one here. There are a few rather random tombs opposite the cemetery itself. It is possible that they were laid here before the cemetery was set up. They quite close to the water and if it is wasn’t for tha small hill near they water, the tombs might have been swept away by now.
