Church Ruins at Malin Well

I made a slight detour from Malin Head to this place call Malin Well, it was on Google Maps and it was near enough that I thought I should just stop and have a look. Malin Well seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. There was a rocky beach here wasn’t didn’t appear to be worth swimming in. It was a rather strange area since it didn’t seemed to be conducive to living. Still, there was an old settlement here. Before Christianization, the locals thought that this was a holy place. This is actually a natural spring here which is probably one of the reasons why locals stayed here. The water of the spring is said to be miraculous and has healing properties.

Eventually Christianity reached this part of the country and there was a church built here as it is normal to build one where settlements are. The church is now in ruins and there is only a couple of walls remaining here. As usual, the roof is long gone. So there isn’t much to see here. Curiously enough the well itself isn’t marked so I wasn’t sure where to find it. Either way, there is no more settlement here as it has already been long abandoned. Unsurprising since this place is too rocky to live in. It would probably better to live a little more inland if the locals insist on staying near the holy well.
