From the Mamore Gap I continued on the Inishowen 100. It seems that I was taking too much time that it was almost lunch time. I decided to head to a large town within the vicinity, that town happens to be Carndonagh. I have heard of this town but I only passed through it once before. This time, I’m coming there for lunch. The town was actually larger than I thought it would be. I would probably have head straight to main street for food but I saw a sign which pointed to a high cross in the town.
A high cross is one of those important looking crosses usually made of stone. They usually have intricate designs. Carndonagh seems to have one of these high crosses. I actually passed by the sight earlier but I didn’t notice it. The high cross is hidden under a shelter not unlike a bus stop shelter. There was a stone cross which looked very old. The designs of the cross were still visible but large parts of it were already eroded. I like the design of Irish crosses and this is probably the oldest one I have seen so far. This one supposedly dates back to the 7th century. I took my photos and left.
