When I set out to drive the Inishowen 100, I didn’t know that I would be revisiting some places which I have been to before. Not that I’m complaining since today was a much more beautiful day compared to the first time I was here. Hopefully, I would be able to get better shots this time around. As one arrives as Fort Dunree, one would immediately see the fort perched on a cliff looking out to the Lough Swilly. Looking at the map, this point is actually a point where the Lough Swilly narrows. This allows for easier defense from invaders coming from the sea.
True enough, there are actually large guns here built on the side of the hill looking out to sea. With this strategic advantage of position, it was easier to attack any enemies coming from the sea. While I know that the guns are very large, I still find it amazing that those guns can reach that far into the lough. The guns can also be rotated depending on where the enemy is. From my understanding, these guns are serviced regularly, hopefully never to be needed. There are also armored vehicles here to show what kind of vehicles were used during the war.
