Caldwell Castle is the last of the plantation castles which I visited. This also probably one of the most enigmatic ones I have seen so far. Most of the castles are in various states of ruin but they are mostly okay to visit. Most of them have some of their walls intact with the castle grounds okay to visit. Most of them have been turned to monuments or parks which makes it okay to visit. However, Caldwell Castle is in a different state of disrepair. This castle was occupied up until the 20th century before it was abandoned. Looking at the castle, one wouldn’t think twice to say that this castle hasn’t been lived in for centuries.
After the castle was abandoned, plants eventually took over the place. The walls were overgrown with plants. Even the entrances were not easy to get into because of the plant growth. I actually walked past the castle without realizing that I did. I only thought that the forest was that thick. Going inisde castle Caldwell is not for the faint of heart. There is a flimsy wire fence to keep people away, but more determined people can just go in. Bear in mind that there really is a lot of plant growth here so be very careful when exploring this castle.
