The Basilica of Saint Michael is one of the major landmarks here in the city of Bordeaux. The bell tower in particular is one of the most prominent structures in the city. I like the tower, since it seems to be a very impressive piece of architecture. The inside of the basilica is dark as gothic churches tend to be. There stained glass windows are also high up the church walls that it was difficult for natural light to come down. There are electric lights here to help with the darkness. I was surprised to see that there weren’t a lot of seats here inside the church. Indeed, the inside of the church feels much smaller than it looked from the outside.
There were two sets of seats here and they were just normal seat and not the typical pews one would see in large churches. To the left of the altar is a pulpit where traditionally, the priest to give his sermon from. These days, the pulpit is hardly used anymore. The church also shows signs that it was built from the bygone age. There was a fence which separates the altar from the rest of the church. These days, I think that would be more likely frowned upon since the idea is to be closer to the people and not be apart from them.
