The area along the River Garonne in Bordeaux is certainly one of the most picturesque in the city. There seem to be a multitude of old structures here which visitors would be delighted to see. There have been multiple urban renewals that Bordeaux has undertaken over the centuries but it seems that most of the historical structures have been preserved. Sure there used to be walls here and have been torn down for a more open layout. However, parts of the old wall still remained. One such place is the Porte Cailhau.
I saw the Porte CAilhau from a distance and I knew the it was going to be something special. Porte Cailhau was the original gate to enter the city of Bordeaux. There was probably a wall here but they have been replaced by buildings. The buildings themselves aren’t new either so this happened a few centuries ago. The first thing which people would think of when they see Porte Cailhau is that of a castle. Porte Cailhau has several pointed towers which undoubtedly remind one of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, on a much smaller scale. I hurried to the gate since this is probably one of the more photographed places in the city. Hopefully, I would be able to get good shots.
