I was pleasantly surprised that the Bordeaux Cathedral was very near where I was staying. Actually, there are other nice locations which seem to be within walking distance of the hotel. With no route in mind, I started with the Bordeaux Cathedral. The cathedral is a very old one having been built in the 11th century. I was surprised to know how old it was since it doesn’t look like it is almost a thousand years old. The main church building itself has multiple pointed towers but none more prominent than the two near the entrance.
The design of the cathedral appears to be a combination of Gothic and Romanesque. I only say Romanesque because there is that typical rose window which is common in Romanesque churches. The rest of the building looks more gothic. Typical with gothic churches, the facade is very ornate and already one would have a grand time just admiring the details of the outside of the church. The church is dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle. It makes a good landmark here since there are tram stops here. The plaza is actually quite spacious but there didn’t seem to be a lot of people here right now.
