It was probably silly of me not to have realized that the city of Toulouse was much larger than the city center would have suggested. What I initially explored turned out to be the one of the old town centers. The city of Toulouse has grown beyond that and I realized that it was actually built along the banks of the river Garonne. The Garonne is a major river which snakes all the way to the city of Bourdeux and to the Atlantic Ocean. Needless to say, the river is a major part of the life of the city since it was large enough carry cargo way inland from the Atlantic.
The shores of the Garonne are well developed. There appear to be historical structures on both sides of the river and I will end up exploring both sides. I like the way development was done in this city since a lot of historical structures have been preserved. This seems to be common theme in various parts of the country. It is thus not surprising that there would be medieval structures alongside modern structures since laws have been put in place to ensure they are preserved for eternity.
