It was already noon time and I was getting hungry. I have been exploring the city center of Toulouse the whole morning and I was enjoying it. There were a lot more people now and it was getting busy. I want to have a break and get some lunch. I was walking up and down the streets of the city center looking for a place to eat. Apart from French food, there was a lot more variety here since this is a big city. However, I have been refraining from having anything other then French food while I’m here. Part of the purpose of this trip is to better appreciate the famed French cuisine.
The city center has a lot of restaurants, some of them were side by side so one would be spoilt for choices. I ended up at a rather classy looking place called Le Point Gourmet. Then again, whenever I see a restaurant with a French name, I would think that it is someplace classy. I didn’t really need to understand most of the menu, all I knew was that I wanted proper duck confit also called confit de canard. All that menu reading seems to be paying off. The meal came with an appetizer called pissaladière. It is tart with onion filling and to counter the sweetness, some anchovies were put on top of it. It was nice even if I don’t fancy having tarts as an appetizer. The main dish was the duck confit. I came unceremoniously to my table with a single leg and some mashed potatoes. It wasn’t that impressive to look at honestly since it looked so bare. However, I didn’t realize how good it was. The skin of the duck leg was slightly crispy and the meat itself was very tender, almost falling off the bone. It was lightly salted and honestly, I thought it was very nice. I don’t know if this is proper duck confit but this is the best one I had so far. It was a far cry from the steak like duck I had elsewhere. Maybe I should try cooking it sometime.
