I spent most of the day in the town of Albi, north of Toulouse. It was raining the whole day so I didn’t feel like moving about. Additionally, it was winter time, so the days were short. I decided to just head back to the city of Toulouse where I was staying for a couple of days. By the time I got back to Toulouse, it was already dark. I didn’t feel like walking about in the city since I was tired from exploring Albi. I was hungry so I thought I should just go look for a place to have dinner.
I think I was really tired that day and I just ended up eating at a place just across the train station. I was hoping to just eat and go back to the hotel to rest. There is a hotel Le Bristol just opposite the Gare de Toulouse Matabiau station. It has a cafe restaurant which serves food. It doesn’t look like it caters to the tourist crowd but rather to the commuting public. It looks like of those places you eat at while waiting for your train. The menu itself didn’t have anything interesting in it, so I ended up having duck confit, which is probably what I would consider my default French dish to order. That turned out to be a mistake, the duck was overcooked and instead of a nice and tender duck meat, the duck meat was dry and tough. I guess the fries were much better but I would have prefered to have a nice duck leg for dinner. After that rather disappointing dinner, I just head back to the hotel for some rest, I am on vacation after all!
