From the Berbie Palace, I could see that there were major bridges nearby which cross the River Tarn. I decided not to visit the one which was furthest downstream because the weather wasn’t very good. I managed to visit the Point Vieux, which probably one of the most important places to see here in Albi. After that, it was time for me to head back to town. I took a slightly different route coming back to the town center. I saw that there was a taller bridge upstream and I thought that I would make a better vantage point to observe the beautiful city of Albi.
There was a bit of a climb since the bridge was much higher than the Pont Vieux. The Pont du 22 Août 1944, or Bridge of August 22 1944, has a great view of the old town. It was a shame that the weather wasn’t very good since the furthest parts of the old town can’t be seen very clearly. I could imagine how nice this place would be had the weather been more cooperative. As for the name of the bridge, I didn’t find any information about the bridge itself, but it seems that the 22nd of August 1944 was a significant moment in the history of France. This was the time when the French rose against the Nazi Germans who were in control at the time. This could be said to be the turning point in the liberation of Paris and France from the invaders.
