With the main citadel at Carcassonne closed because of the public holiday, there was little for me to do here except go around the town and take photos. I was glad that there weren’t a lot of visitors here but then I wasn’t able to see what was inside the main citadel. I actually finished early and just took a break from all the touring. I remembered that there was this square within the town which looked very attractive, it seemed like it is nice place to hang out. I was actually having second thoughts about staying since there was supposed to be a wind warning and I don’t know how bad the winds were here.
Thankfully, the winds weren’t anything I couldn’t handle. I was worried that I would have to spend the night here. I decided to have an early dinner here in Carcassonne. One thing which seems to be a dish which one should have is cassoulet. The name sounds familiar but it is probably just something that sounds like something else. I ended up at this very bus tavern called Le Trouvere. It was not very bright inside, so it was difficult get someone attention. I wasn’t in a hurry to eat since it was still late afternoon. As expected, I had pork and duck cassoulet. This is actually a pork and duck stew with white beans. Because it was dark inside the tarvern, it was difficult to get a photo of the dish. It tastes familiar, the pork is basically sausage and the duck is, well, duck. It is a specialty dish of the region. While, it wasn’t particularly tasty, it wasn’t bad at all. I like these kinds of food and it was good to try it at their place of origin.
