The Cité de Carcassonne certainly looks very impressive from the outside. The impregnable looking walls would definitely make any invader think twice about coming near this place. It is one thing to even try to go over the walls, but since the citadel is up on a hill, the enemy would have seen them miles away. I would expect that within the walls would be and even more structures for defense but I was instead surprised to see that there seemed to be a normal looking town within the walls. In hindsight, it does make sense. The walls were meant to protect something and it was the town within the walls.
I thought the town within the walls was quite attractive. In fact, it seems like I traveled back in time. There were shops here but the structures seems to be mostly intact. One could say that nothing much has really changed since the town still does what it does hundreds of years ago. Thankfully, there are no invaders to worry about this time around. The restaurants in particular seem to be very interesting places to visit. Although it was still early in the afternoon, I was already looking forward to eating there.
