Exploring the medieval city of Avignon appears to have a logical precedence. First people would be visiting the main square, not too far away is that Palais des Papes, right beside it is Avignon Cathedral, followed by the Rocher des Doms. From the park, it is just a short walk one of Avignon most recognizable landmarks – Pont d’Avignon. I was able to spot the Pont d’Avignon from the Rocher des Doms. The Pont d’Avignon is a bridge which almost cross the breadth of the nearby river. It seems that this is also a well known landmark and it is one of the most important places to visit here in Avignon.
The walls of Avignon have an opening which brings visitor up into the visitor center. I was actually surprised to see that the visitor center also has a small museum. This one seems to show some artifacts which came from Avignon. A lot of Avignon’s history also revolves around the river. The museum also describes how the bridge was built, which was surprisingly interesting. I probably take for granted how difficult bridges can be built. It was very interesting to see the history behind such a monument. Enough talk, I just want to see the bridge.
