Pointed Towers of the Palais des Papes

There seems to be a fixed route that visitors would take when visiting the Palais des Papes. I guess it makes sense to have that so people won’t be going all over the place. Visitors were led through the large number of halls which the Palais des Papes has. Although they each have their own individual characteristic, I kind of zoned out after the first few halls. I was thinking that once you have seen one of them then you have seen them all. That is not really true for all but I lost interest after a while. What did interest me what that the tourist route actually brings you to the top of the Palais des Papes.

From the outside the Palais des Papes is an imposing piece of architecture. The building soars above the surrounding area, which makes it a good location observing the town of Avignon. There is a flight of stairs which leads to the roof and visitors can have a better view of the pointed towers of the palace. There was surprisingly little room here. All there was were some paths which lead to some observation towers. It seems that only the front part of the palace was that tall and thus had these observation towers. The rear part of the palace probably didn’t need that much protection.
