The Palais des Papes was much larger than I expected. It is one of Europe’s largest gothic buildings and I think I am just beginning to understand why. I have been to Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Palais des Papes is certainly nothing like that. The Palais des Papes appears to be a palace in the truest sense of the world. The video guide would help the visitor go around the massive palace. To keep visitor from getting bored because of the size of the buildings, one can scan images within rooms and the video guide will play information about the room.
As I was going around the room, I noticed that there were a lot of art works being displayed here. These are not old art works which date back to the Avignon Papacy, but these are modern creations. I didn’t really like them but then I realized that once the art works are removed, then there won’t be anything to show in the rooms. The rooms of the Palais des Papes are mostly bare. There weren’t any furniture to show what was done here. All there would be are some points where visitors would trigger videos from. It is unfortunate that there aren’t any more furniture but after all the Palais des Papes went through, I think we should be grateful that the palace is still standing.
